GreenJackets Rebound, Win Game Seven To Take Series In Myrtle Beach
Dimon Drives In Two, Bullpen Superb In Series Finale
*Myrtle Beach, SC* – The Augusta GreenJackets (Atlanta Braves) lost both games in Saturday’s doubleheader to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Chicago Cubs). Augusta (18-20) was one-hit in the first game and held to four base knocks in the second game as the Pelicans (19-19) coasted to 3-1 and 6-3 victories.
Didier Fuentes, the youngest pitcher in GreenJackets history got the start for Augusta. After having to wait 50 minutes, as first pitch was delayed due to weather, Fuentes delivered the best professional outing of his career, going four shutout innings and striking out four while giving up just three hits. After being hitless through four, Justin Janas led off the inning with a sigle, and Bryson Worrell followed with a double to push Janas to third. Dawson Dimon recorded a sacrifice fly to bring home the first run of the game to put the GreenJackets up 1-0 after 5.
Chad Bryant (W, 1-0) came in to relieve Fuentes in the fifth, and worked around two singles to pitch a scoreless inning. Nolan Martinez entered in the sixth, and gave up just one run in two innings. In the top of the seventh, Janas and Worrell both reached base once again, before Dawson Dimon singled and E.J. Exposito recorded a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 3-0. Martinez gave up the lone run of the day in the bottom of the seventh, before Jason Franks stranded a runner on second with two strikeouts in the eighth and Elison Joseph (S, 3) retired the side in order in the ninth.
The GreenJackets won four of seven games on their road trip, and improved to a tie for third place in the South after the week’s events. The GreenJackets return to SRP Park for six games against the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (Chicago White Sox) beginning Tuesday, May 23rd!
