EASTLAKE, OH -- Thanks to a strong High-A debut from Ike Buxton and six hitters tallying multi-hit games, the Sky Carp defeated Lake County 8-5 on Wednesday afternoon at Classic Park.

After scoring just one run in Tuesday’s loss, Beloit scratched a run across in the first inning on a Josh Zamora bases loaded walk.

In the third, the Sky Carp lead grew to 2-0, thanks to a Cam Barstad RBI single with two outs.

On the pitching side, Buxton worked a perfect first time through the order, eventually retiring the first 10 batters he faced.

After Beloit got RBI singles from Torin Montgomery and Jorge Caballero in the fourth, the Captains ended Buxton’s no-hit and shutout bid with a Milan Tolentino solo homer that trimmed the lead to 4-1.

In the fifth, the Sky Carp got a homer of their own – a two-run shot from Ynmanol Marinez that pushed the lead to 6-1.

In the sixth, Buxton retired the first two batters, but then allowed each of the final three batters he faced to reach and was removed following a Joe Lampe RBI knock. Yeuris Jimenez took over, but failed to record an out, issuing two bases loaded walks that cut the lead to 6-4.

Tyler Eckberg came into the game and induced a pop out to leave the bases loaded and keep the Carp in the lead.

Tanner Allen delivered some insurance in the top of the seventh, ripping a 2-RBI double to make it 8-4.

The Captains got one run back on a Jake Fox solo homer in the seventh, but Caleb Wurster recorded a two inning save with four strikeouts to slam the door.

Beloit and Lake County resume the six-game series, now tied at one game apiece, Thursday evening at 7:00 ET.
