The Kernels Summer Reading Program, presented by Toyota Financial Services, is designed to help encourage students in Pre-K – 5th grade to stay engaged in their education outside the classroom. Reading program scorecards are where students can find directions on how to participate and track their minutes. Just like baseball, students must make their way around the bases to hit a home run in the Kernels Summer Reading Program. To keep everybody motivated to read, we have prizes at each base (benchmark) along the way:
1st Base Prize 250 minutes read | A free ticket to a Kernels Game in 2023 and a $5 opening deposit from Hills Bank
2nd Base Prize 500 minutes read | A free Kid's Buffet at Pizza Ranch and a $5 game card to any Cedar Rapids or Marion Pizza Ranch Fun Zone, one free pass for unlimited access to the bounce castles at a Kernels 2023 game, and 1 FREE admission to the Play Maze and a $5.00 Game Card at The Fun Station Cedar Rapids.
3rd Base Prize 750 minutes read | A Kernels Mr. Shucks slide game, a Kernels-themed coloring book, and a FREE Kids Meal with Fresh Frozen Custard at local Culver's restaurants.
Home Run Prize 1,000 minutes read | A Kernels color changing cup and an invitation to Reader Recognition Night on Saturday, August 19th.
Bring your scorecards to the Kernels Bimm Ridder Diamond Shop, to claim your prizes (while supplies last) beginning Monday, April 24th. Bimm Ridder Diamond Shop hours are Monday-Friday 10 AM – 5 PM. We are offering curbside pick-up for those preferring to not enter the store, and you can call 319-363-3887 for that option.
