Late heroics from Luis Santana and Blake Holub secured a 4-3 win for Erie over Altoona.

Erie jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning on consecutive two-out doubles from Justice Bigbie and Jace Jung. Jung hit his RBI double off left-hander Anthony Solometo.

In the fourth, the SeaWolves loaded the bases with no out. Julio Rodriguez singled home a run to make it 2-0. Trei Cruz later grounded into a run-scoring fielder’s choice to make it 3-0.

Brant Hurter tossed four scoreless on three hits, no walks, and three strikeouts. Michael Bienlien took over in the fifth and allowed a leadoff double to Jacob Gonzalez. He later scored on Lolo Sanchez’s RBI groundout.

RJ Petit entered in the sixth and began his outing with two scoreless innings. He faltered in the eighth inning. Eli Wilson singled and scored on Jackson Glenn’s RBI double to make it 3-2. Tsung-Che Cheng then singled home Glenn to tie the game at three.

In the bottom of the eighth, Luis Santana led off against Cameron Junker. He crushed a solo home run to give Erie a 4-3 lead. It was Santana’s sixth home run since August 19.

Blake Holub entered to get the final out in the eighth inning. A pair of singles in the ninth had two runners in scoring position for Altoona with one out. Holub then struck out Sanchez and Wilson to strand the tying and go-ahead runs on base to finish the game.

Holub (1-3) earned the win. Junker (2-4) took the loss.

The series continues at 6:05 p.m. on Friday as Lael Lockhart opposes Paul Skenes.
