Oklahoma City, OK Alek Thomas was excellent for the Reno Aces (31-22) in a 6-5 win over the Oklahoma City Dodgers (38-15) Wednesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Thomas was a home run shy of the cycle while delivering the game-winning run and flashing outstanding defense in center. Thomas’ double in the fifth put the Aces in front for good, a vital swing after the Dodgers erased Jake Hager’s go-ahead two-run homer in the fourth.

The Aces tallied double-digit hits one night after Oklahoma City’s league leading staff held them to just two singles in the series opener. Kyle Lewis, Phillip Evans, and Thomas each recorded multiple hits in the heart of the order. Buddy Kennedy extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a single in the ninth.

Reno entered the game with the second best OPS in Triple-A against left-handed pitching (.874). Oklahoma starter Robbie Erlin, a lefty, allowed seven hits and six runs in 4 1/3 innings.

Luis Frías, Zach McAllister, and Justin Martínez combined for 5 1/3 shutout innings out of the bullpen. Martínez hasn’t allowed an earned run since April 13th, a span of 15 innings with 21 strikeouts.

The six-game series continues Thursday night at 5:05 p.m. PT.
