Series Preview: Squirrels sights set on postseason, attendance crown

The Flying Squirrels play their final home series of the 2023 regular season beginning Tuesday, Sept. 5 against the Akron RubberDucks, Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians. Richmond remains in a tight race for the Southwest Division second-half title with the first-half champion Erie SeaWolves and Bowie Baysox. If Erie were to win both halves, the team with the next best second-half record would receive a postseason berth.

Additionally, the Flying Squirrels need to draw approximately 40,000 fans during the six-game series to lead all of Double-A in total and average attendance for a second consecutive season.

Fan Appreciation Week will be celebrated throughout the week with a variety of ticket specials and include one of the largest fireworks shows of the year on Saturday, Sept. 9 as part of ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation Night. First pitch for all games Tuesday through Saturday is scheduled for 6:05 PM with gates opening at 5 PM.

It's Bingo Night at the ballpark! The first 1,000 fans ages 15 and older will receive a vintage bingo board T-shirt (sizes S-XXXL while supplies last) courtesy of Seredni Tire & Auto. Join "Bingo Bailey" from 5:40-6 PM on the main stage for a game of bingo and a chance to win Flying Squirrels prizes.

Additionally, as part of Fan Appreciation Week, first responders can receive two complimentary General Admission tickets simply by presenting a valid professional ID at any ticket booth outside The Diamond.

It's also the final Silver Squirrels game of the year! Fans 55 and older are eligible to join the Silver Squirrels presented by OrthoVirginia and receive exclusive member benefits such as tickets to every Tuesday regular season home game, a Silver Squirrels T-shirt, a voucher for 10 free food items, and more. Fan Appreciation Week continues with a celebration of local businesses and civic organizations as part of RVA Night presented by Cabo Fish Taco.

Additionally, teachers, administrators and school support staff can receive two complimentary General Admission tickets simply by presenting a valid school ID at any ticket booth outside The Diamond.

Fans can also enjoy $5 glasses of wine and $6 wine slushies from 5-7 PM at the Wine Cart located on the main concourse across from Gilbane Fan Services. Plus, all dogs are admitted free every Wednesday regular season home game. Please request a dog-friendly section if accompanied by a pet.

Go Spiders! Kick-off the fall sports season with WebstUR on University of Richmond Night at The Diamond. In conjunction with our Fan Appreciation Week festivities, we will also celebrate the Metropolitan Business League as part of MBL Night.

Be sure to stick around after the game for In-Your-Face Fireworks presented by Belle Isle Craft Spirits.

Friday, Sept. 8 vs. Los Perros Calientes de Akron

Join las Ardillas Voladoras de Richmond for a Caribbean celebration! The first 1,500 fans ages 15 and older will take home an Ardillas Voladoras island-style shirt courtesy of Performance Foodservice.

Plus, Fan Appreciation Week continues with a special discounted ticket rate for all area college students. Simply present a valid college ID at any ticket booth outside The Diamond to receive $5 General Admission tickets.

Fans can also enjoy happy hour drink specials from 5-7 PM including $2 12-ounce domestic beers at all lower concession stands, upper concourse beer carts and the Budweiser Thirsty Acorn. $2 Pepsi fountain sodas are also available at the Papa Johns stand on the main concourse.

Join us for our annual celebration of the ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation in partnership with Anthem, featuring the Kourageous Kids lap in the middle of the seventh inning. The Flying Squirrels will also wear special jerseys custom designed by ASK Kourageous Kids that will be auctioned during the game to benefit ASK.

As part of our Fan Appreciation Week festivities, retired and active-duty military members can receive two complimentary General Admission tickets simply by presenting a valid military ID at any ticket booth outside The Diamond.

The night will conclude with the End of Season Sizzlin' Fireworks Spectacular – one of our largest fireworks shows of the year!

Sunday, Sept. 10 vs. Akron RubberDucks

The Flying Squirrels play their final home game of the 2023 regular season as we celebrate Fan Appreciation Day presented by Goodr.

Families are invited to play catch on the field before every Sunday home game courtesy of Nesquik. Fans can access the field through Section 107-108 gate from 12:45-1:00 PM.

Then after the game, kids 14 and younger can run the bases thanks to Richmond Family Magazine. Line up outside the Squirrels Nest Team Store immediately following the game. Parents and guardians will be permitted on the field with their kids and can meet them at home plate after they run the bases.
